NHL Div 1B (FT) Antrim 1-11 Wexford 0-15
Wexford travelled to Ballycastle for their Div 1B opening round game V Antrim.
The pitch, said to be the most northerly in the country was bathe in sunshine with views of The Mull of Kintyre, Scotland across Fairhead provided a magnificent backdrop to the game. We had the most charming of hosts, well until the game started, then however their true hurling pedigree shone through as they took the game to Wexford and were unlucky to be only 1 point ahead at the break.
Half time Antrim 0-6 Wexford 0-5.
Low scoring first half saw Richie Kehoe sent off before half time for off the ball incident.
Great 2nd half by Wexford saw them race into a 0-15 to 0-8 lead with 7 to go, Antrim hit 3 in a row then hit a goal as game went into two minutes injury time.
Antrim then won a free on the wing but the effort went wide and Wexford hung on for another minute for a fine victory with 14 men.
Laois defeated Offaly in the other Div 1B game by 2 points and they are now top of the group after Cork & Limerick drew last night.
Wexford play Offaly next Sunday in New Ross in Round 2.
