Allianz Rackard League Football – Roinn C Final
Horeswood 3-6 Bree 1-3
Horeswood captured the final Allianz Rackard League Football title of the season when they overcame Bree in the Roinn C decider in Cushinstown under lights on Friday last in excellent conditions.
Bree opened brightly aided with a slight breeze and John Kehoe and Peter Kelly had them deservedly two points up within five minutes of the throw-in.
However, two minutes later, corner forward Seán Hunt’s shot was deflected to the net to give Horeswood a lead they would never subsequently lose. Jack Hutchinson blasted home from close range shortly afterwards and Adam Kent the kicked over a fine point for Horeswood to put them 2-1 to 0-2 clear.
Dean Doyle pulled a point back for Bree after a quarter of a hour but three points in the last five minutes from Seán Nolan (2) and Andrew Breen saw the New Ross District side lead 2-4 to 0-3 at the interval.
Horeswood began the second half in a lively manner and points from Seán Nolan and Darragh Kent had them nine points up within six minutes of the restart. The next fifteen minutes were scoreless despite great endeavour from both sides.
Shane Fenlon gave Bree hope with a goal two minutes from time but Darragh Kent found the net for Bree with the last kick of the game to leave them deserving winners by 3-6 to 1-3.
Best for Horeswood were Cyril Prendergast, David Murphy, Seán Nolan an Darragh Kent while Nicholas Doyle, Dean Doyle and Shane Fenlon were to the fore for a gallant Bree side who fought bravely to the end.
Afterwards, Dan O’ Flaherty, Rackard League Chairman, presented the cup to Horeswood captain, David Murphy.
