Wexford farmers Co-op 60 x 30 Championships.
The action is underway in the Wexford Farmers Co-op 60 x 30 singles and doubles championships as the big alleys of the county come alive again after their winter hibernation.
Miley Connors playing for Barntown began life in group A of the senior singles with a 21-14, 21-14 win over Cormac Smyth from Castlebridge., while in the same group Paul Lambert received a walk over from Colin Keeling who is currently nursing an injury.
In group B Gavin Buggy was given an early fright in his opening round encounter with Eugene Kelly from Castlebridge as Kelly took the opening set 21-7, how old order was restored as Buggy regrouped and took the remaining two sets 21-15, 21-13.
David Kenny and his Castlebridge club mate Corey Murphy played out a fantastic three set thriller, which eventually went the way of Kenny as he won 21-15, 14-21, 21-4. The surprise of the round came in this group also as Peter McGrath from Coolgraney turned over Tommy Hynes from St Mary’s in their opening round clash. Tommy Hynes took the opening set 21-7, but he was out muscled 21-13, 21-13 by McGrath.
Indeed it was a very good week for McGrath as he accounted for Noel Holohan from Templeudigan in the opening round of the intermediate singles on a 21-8, 21-14 score line. Joining McGrath in the quarter finals of the intermediate singles is JR Finn from Ballymitty after he beat John Murphy from Castlebridge on a 21-20, 21-19 score line. Finn’s Ballymitty club mate Shane Rossiter also advanced to the quarter finals with a 21-4, 21-14 win over Michael O’Neill from Templeudigan.
James Maddock (St Martin’s) advanced to the quarter finals of the Junior D singles after he defeated Aaron Kielthy from Bridgetown on a 21-10, 21-14 score in the next round he will be joined by Brian Busher from Bridgetown as he defeated John Byrne from Ballymitty .
Mick Armstrong won a tough opening round of the Masters A singles , as the Davidstown man eventually got the better of Jimmy Moran from Ballymitty on a 21-18, 12-21, 21-13 score line.

There were two Wexford players in action last weekend in the finals of the 60 x 30 hardball singles. Unfortunately it was not to be for Jason Murphy in the junior singles final as he was defeated 21-19, 21-12 by Niall O’Connor from Kildare.
