There’ll be a real feast of gaelic games in the Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence at Ferns this Sunday (September 1), with the staging of the Halo Tiles U10 Go Games Monster Blitz.
Thirty-seven clubs from all round the county have registered to participate, and they expect to bring a total of almost 800 young players for a series of small-sided matches of 20 minutes each. All clubs taking part will have a minimum of two teams, while some will have as many as four. All teams will play two matches under the usual Go Games ethos of ‘everybody gets a go’.
Some clubs have opted for two hurling matches, some for two football matches, and some for one of each. There are 90 matches on the schedule altogether to accommodate them all, with the action due to begin at 9.30 a.m., and the last of the matches scheduled to begin at 1.45 p.m.
All players will receive a medal and a souvenir gift thanks to the generous sponsorship of Halo Tiles, who are long-standing valued partners of Wexford GAA.
Ray Harris, Head of Games Development with Wexford GAA, said: ‘We’re thrilled to be able to offer such a massive programme of games on Sunday for so many U10 players, and we’re very grateful for the support of Halo Tiles. Go Games are a massively important stage in the Player Development Pathway, and we’ve already had some 300 fixtures at U10 level this year.
‘It’s brilliant to be able to offer such a big event for so many young players in the Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence, where no doubt many of them dream of being regularly in years to come, if they go on to represent Wexford in any grade.’
Patrick Doyle, Managing Director of Halo Tiles, said: ‘We’re delighted to support Sunday’s event. I’ve seen first-hand over the years how important Go Games are and the enjoyment that young players get from them, and great credit goes to all the team coaches, parents, and everybody else involved in making them such an ongoing success.
‘I’m looking forward to a great day on Sunday, and I wish all the best to everybody involved.’
