Aidan O’Brien has announced his captain for the year.
Our most experienced forward Redmond Barry is the chosen one.
Red as he is better know has represented Wexford at both hurling and football right up to senior grade.
In recent years he has dedicated his time exclusively to football and has been a member of the Wexford team that has some inspirational days in Croke Park. Red has scored goals against the Dubs in Leinster finals when Wexford came oh so close to claiming provincial honours.
It is also an honour for his Club, St Annes Rathangan, who won the county senior football title in 2012. They had also made it to the senior hurling semi finals, again showing their diversity of talent.
Red’s first challenge will be in Wexford Park on Sunday next February 3rd when he leads Wexford out in the first round of the National Football League Division 2 game against our well know rivals, Longford.
It is the first game in the new division for both teams after they had finished 1st and 2nd in DIv 3 last year and so gained promotion. Longford winning the league final but Wexford gained revenge when they triumphed after a replay in the Leinster Championship.
