A meeting of Coiste Contae CLG Loch Garman took place in the PC Peripherals Education Hub at Chadwicks Wexford Park on the evening of Tuesday November 25, 2025. Matters discussed included:
Tara Rocks/Kilanerin
Cathaoirleach John Kenny informed the meeting that Tara Rocks and Kilanerin/Ballyfad no longer wish to continue the amalgamation that has been in place in recent years.
Tara Rocks had voted at their AGM on Friday November 21 to discontinue it. Kilanerin/Ballyfad had also been due to vote on it at AGM on Friday November 28, but there was now no need to do so.
The clubs will now compete separately at both underage and adult levels.
Brian McDonald, speaking on behalf of Tara Rocks, thanked Kilanerin/Ballyfad and CLG Loch Garman for having given the club the opportunity of the partnership. He said it had worked well for more than 20 years at underage level and for nine years at adult, but had now run its course.
He said Tara Rocks are already starting recruitment efforts to bring in additional players, and while there are challenges ahead, they are confident they are an attractive club.
Michael McGonigle, Cathaoirleach of Kilanerin/Ballyfad, also spoke on the issue and wished Tara Rocks well for the future.
CLG Loch Garman will now liaise with CCC Loch Garman and Croke Park to start the process of the clubs returning to competing as separate entities in next year’s competitions.
Strategic Plan 2026 – 2030
Michéal Mahon, Cathoirleach of the Strategic Plan working group, have an update on recent work in relation to the Plan. He reminded delegates that in connection with the Coaching & Games section, Paul Kinnerk (University of Limerick) and Michael McGeehan (Sport Ireland) will present the findings of the recent ‘Club Nights’ in the Riverside Park Hotel on Thursday November 27. It is important that all clubs should be represented there.
Infrastructure
Safety & Facilities Officer Dave Tobin said a new lift is being installed to provide access to the wheelchair area of Chadwicks Wexford Park. In addition, an upstairs meeting room and additional office space in Chadwicks Wexford Park are currently being completed, and a lift will be installed to provide access to these too.
Convention 2025
Runaí Aoife Parle informed delegates that motions and nominations for Convention had been circulated to clubs earlier that day. Cathaoirleach John Kenny added that the financial reports will soon be completed and will also be circulated in advance of Convention, which is to be held on Monday 8th December.
Central Council Report
Central Council delegate Micheál Martin said the next meeting was scheduled for Saturday November 29 and League fixtures for 2026 are expected to be official ratified there. Other items on the agenda include Demographics, an update from the Amateur Status committee, the GPA Charter, and motions for Congress.
In relation to demographics, it was pointed out again that it is crucial clubs register all members on the Foireann system, even down to Nursery level. This is for two reasons:
- If a person is not registered on Foireann, they are not covered under the Injury Benefit Fund.
- The level of funding for counties for Coaching & Games etc. is dependent upon the number of registered players in that county. If large numbers of young players in Wexford are not registered on Foireann, we are not getting our full entitlement of central funding.
Coiste na nÓg
The Coiste nan Óg AGM is to be held in Whites Hotel, Wexford, on Tuesday December 2nd at 7.30 p.m.
Any motions referring to championship structure are to be deferred to the January meeting. This is because a number of motions for Convention on December 8th seek to allow minor players to also line out in adult competition. Next year’s underage structures cannot be properly considered until the outcome of these votes becomes known.
Leinster Club Finals
Cathaoirleach John Kenny congratulated St. Martin’s and Davidstown-Courtnacuddy on reaching the Leinster Club Hurling Championships Senior and Junior Finals, respectively. He urged all of Wexford to get behind both clubs and show them every support possible in their finals, and hoped they would bring back silverware to Wexford.
Aon Ghnó Eile
Cathaoirleach John Kenny remarked this was the final meeting of an Coiste Contae for the year, and therefore brought to an end his first year in the Chair. He thanked all for their support and cooperation since he assumed the role. He also recognised how for some club delegates, it may have been their final meeting, if they were stepping down from the role at their club AGM. He thanked those in this position for their service, and wished them well for the years ahead.
The meeting ended.
