A meeting of Coiste Contae CLG Loch Garman took place in the PC Peripherals Education Hub at Chadwicks Wexford Park on the evening of February 17th, 2026. Matters discussed were as follows.
Condolences
A moment’s silence was observed in memory of a number of people who had recently passed away. Cathaoirleach John Kenny made special mention of Fr. Odhrán Furlong, saying his sudden and unexpected passing the previous week had shocked the entire county. He recalled how Fr. Odhrán had a long association with CLG Loch Garman, and described him as ‘always an absolute gentleman’. He extended heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved.
Strategic Plan
It was confirmed that the Strategic Plan to cover the years 2026 to 2030 will be officially launched at a meeting in the Riverside Park Hotel, Enniscorthy, on the evening of Thursday March 5th. Club Chairpersons, Secretaries, Coiste na nÓg Chairpersons, Coiste na nÓg Secretaries and Coaching Officers will all be invited, along with Club delegates to County Board. Other club personnel with an interest in the Plan will also be welcome to attend.
Appointments
A number of appointments to Coiste Bainistí roles and other positions were announced, and officially ratified where necessary:
- Brian McGrath (St. John’s Volunteers) has moved from Planning & Training Officer to Coiste na nÓg Secretary.
- Conor Kavanagh (Glynn-Barntown) is the new Planning & Training Officer.
- TJ McDonald (St. Abban’s Adamstown) is the Chairperson’s Nominee to An Coiste Bainistí.
- Ollie Somers (Taghmon-Camross) is new Chairperson of the Referees’ Committee.
- Michael Hennessy Cullen (Gusserane O’Rahilly’s) was also appointed to the Referees’ Committee.
- Noel Carton (Cloughbawn) was ratified as a selector to our senior hurling team.
Congress 2026
All motions to be considered at the upcoming Congress 2026 were discussed, and positions formulated for the Wexford delegation there to take.
Cathaoirleach John Kenny noted that the Presidential Election is on the clár for the opening night (Friday February 27th). He sent best wishes to candidate Derek Kent (Taghmon-Camross), saying it would be a great honour for Wexford to produce the President of the GAA, and a fitting role for a man who has done so much for the Association in so many ways.
Fundraising
Club & County Draw coordinator, Joe Sheehan, said it is expected that tickets will be issued to clubs in the week commencing Monday March 9th.
He added that for any clubs who have been selling National Draw tickets, Monday March 9th is also the deadline for online entry of details of their tickets sold.
The senior hurling panel will host a Cheltenham Gold Cup Day event in the Talbot Hotel, Wexford, on Friday March 13th. Further details to follow.
The Talbot Hotel will also be the venue on Friday April 3rd for the ‘Quid Games’ fundraiser being held in association with Wexford Camogie Association & Wexford LGFA, to raise funds for the Halo Tiles Centre of Excellence at Ferns.
All County Leagues
Secretary Aoife Parle confirmed that fixtures for the first two rounds of the All County Football League have been issued, and that fixtures for the first two rounds of hurling will follow soon.
She said 17 requests for changes to the football fixtures had already been received. Changes will be allowed wherever possible, but some of the requests regarding fixtures are simply not feasible, and she asked for clubs’ understanding on this.
Ghnó Eile
Oifigeach na Gaeilge agus Cultúr, Tony Dempsey, said that Scór Sinsear will be held in Bannow Community Hall on Sunday March 8th, beginning at 4 p.m. He encouraged clubs to send participants. He added his congratulations to the young people representing Bannow-Ballymitty GAA Club and Danescastle Music Group on their great success at the Scór na bPáistí All-Ireland Finals in Co. Kerry.
Safety & Facilities Dave Tobin said a new facility is being developed whereby all grant applications will be submitted online. Further details are to follow.
Dave Tobin also reflected on how Chadwicks Wexford Park was recently named as runner-up in the annual ‘Pitch of the Year’ awards run by Croke Park. He congratulated head groundskeeper John Kehoe and all his crew on this achievement.
Cathaoirleach John Kenny announced that the April meeting of Coiste Contae will be held at the Tara Rocks clubhouse, on foot of a request made by the club. He suggested that another club might like to host a meeting later in the year, and ideally a club from South County Wexford, for the sake of geographic spread. Any interested club can contact the office in Chadwicks Wexford Park.
