This is another busy weekend for Gaelic Games in Wexford with important games for both the county senior football team and the Oulart-the-Ballagh Camogie team.
Our footballers play Tipperary in Round 3 of the Allianz National League at 2.30pm on Sunday in Wexford Park and while they started well with a strong win over Cavan, the trip to west to play Sligo two weeks ago resulted in their first defeat. Question marks have been raised about Wexford’s defensive failings about which manager, Jason Ryan, spoke during the week confirming that this was an area where improvement was required and had been focused on in recent training sessions. A win would put promotion back on the agenda but a loss would almost definitely rule it out.
With the u-21’s going so close on Wednesday night, the strength and depth of Wexford football is clear to see.
Meanwhile elsewhere on Sunday, the Oulart-the-Ballagh senior camogie team face Drom/Inch in the All Ireland club final in Croke Park. Backboned by a number of Wexford’s All Stars, Oulart steamrolled their way to the final but they will now face a tough test. A win would cement Wexford’s position as the leading lights in the ladies game and underline that while our men’s hurling teams may be struggling, our ladies are keeping the Purple and Gold flying high.
Best of luck to both sets of players and management.
