Wexford Ambassador Ann Doyle Launchs Black Tie GAA Awards:
Former RTE newsreader and avid GAA fan Ann Doyle launched the Black Tie GAA Awards Night at the Amber Springs Hotel on Friday 30th Nov saying what an honour and privilege it was for her to host an event to pay tribute to the men and women of Wexford who bring distinction and glory to their county particularly this year with our wonderful Camogie team making history achieving the coveted 3 in a row. What wonderful girls they are she said and how proud we are of them and of all our young men and women in the GAA.
Ann called on Diarmuid Devereux Chairman of County Board to say a few words on behalf of the county Management Committee. Diarmuid complimented Ann for her willingness to assist with and promote Wexford GAA and welcomed the opportunity to publicly thank Alan Keyes and Glen Fuels for their generous sponsorship of the forthcoming Black Tie Awards. In todays climate he said it is rare to find a sponsor of the calibre and enthusiasm of Alan and Wexford were lucky to have him. He congratulated all those nominated and had a special word of gratitude for the Wexford Supporters Chairman Arthur Quinn and his hard working, dedicated Committee, particularly PRO Maria Nolan for their trojan fundraising efforts and he wished them well with the Black Tie Awards saying that it will be an event looked forward to throughout the county. He concluded by thanking all the players present for their dedication and loyalty to Wexford and he wished them all well in the voting and well in the 2013 season.
Alan Keyes took the opportunity to give a bit of background to Glen Fuels saying that it was a family business established in 1986, delivering heat oil throughout Wicklow and Wexford. Although, from Greystones, Alan said he had close associations with Wexford his mother being from Gorey and having been blown away by the Camogie All Ireland Final he had no doubt that he wanted to do something for Wexford GAA and made contact with Chairman of the Supporters Club Arthur Quinn and between them they came up with the idea of the Black Tie Player of the Year Awards Night to be held in the Amber Springs on Saturday 16th Feb 2013. Alan says that he intends his involvement to continue over the coming years and he hopes to bring the Black Tie Event to all the towns in Wexford. He thanked Ann Doyle for coming to the Launch and looked forward to her hosting the Awards Night and he said in recognition of her fashion and style accolades there will also be an award for the Best Dressed Couple on the evening as well as a Volunteer Award open to all the clubs to nominate a person worthy of the honour.
Alan declared the voting open on both the Glen Fuel and Wexford GAA websites and handed back to Ann Doyle to close the formalities and invite all to partake of the refreshments provided.
