Carty & Lacey ease to next round………..
The Master doubles pair of Mick Carty and PJ Lacey had at fine win on Saturday last at Talbot’s Inch, Kilkenny when they defeated Seamus and Mick Brennan of Laois. The Wexford pair began at a blistering pace as they took the toss from Laois and made score 9-0 before losing their toss. Lacey showed all his experience with some very intelligent serving, using all the diameters of the alley which resulted in some weak returning of serve, this allowed Carty to play some excellent passing and kill shots to secure the early scores. Once the Laois men regained the toss they showed signs of potential but the Wexford pair were comfortable throughout the first game and ran out winners on a scoreline of 21-10.
In the second game Wexford lost their toss early which allowed Laois to get in and make a few scores.
Apart from this early start the Laois pair never really troubled the Carty/Lacey and once the Wexford pair regained their serve they dominated the second game also. Throughout this match there were some good rally’s with both men from Wexford forcing their opponents to the rear of the alley before displaying good kill shots. In the end Wexford were worthy winners on a scoreline of 21-6 in the second game. A good win at a tough venue for Wexford and Carty/Lacey will be aware that much tougher tasks lay ahead before a Leinster final can be reached.
