All Ireland Handball semi finals
Barry Goff and Colin Keeling relinquished their grip on the senior open doubles crown as they lost out on Saturday evening in a terrific game in Thurles.
Keeling and Goff had to get over an all Wexford quarter final on Wednesday night last first and they were given a very stern test by Paul Lambert and Gavin Buggy in St Mary’s. It was to be Lambert and Buggy who got off the blocks quickest and they took a tough opening set 21-17.
The tide soon turned however as the champions of 2011 , Goff and Keeling soon rose to the occasion and secured a semi final spot by winning the second two sets 21-14, 21-7.
So it was on to Thurles on Saturday evening where former champions Tom Sheridan and Brian Carroll lay in wait , and it was the men from the Royal county Meath who began better and captured the opening set 21-18. The champions responded in the second set with a 21-10 win, but the third set proved a step too far and the title was taken from the grasp of the Wexford duo as Carroll and Sheridan won the third set 21-13.
Chloe Cash and Courtney Browne are on their way to an All Ireland final however as the St Joseph’s /Coolgraney combination marched through to the final of the Girls under 15 doubles with a fantastic display to beat Cork duo Michelle and Niamh McCarthy 15-9, 15-6 .
