It has been another busy and exciting morning for Wexford handball at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin at the World handball championships.
As the singles competitions move to the quarter final stages plenty of Wexford players have progressed to the last eight.
At 1.30 am this morning Peter Hughes secured a quarter final berth in the Men’s A singles with a 21-20,15-21,11-1 win over Nicky Anthony from Kilkenny to set up a quarter final tomorrow with James Brady.
In the Men’s C singles three Wexford players are still in the hunt, as Paddy Berry beat Padraig Townsend from Carlow 21-19, 21-18, Darren O’Toole beat Ciaran McCallan 21-16, 21-12, Mickie Berry lost out 2-0 to William Love from Kilkenny while Felix Doran is currently in action against Kevin Barrett from Carlow in search of a quarter final spot. Paddy Berry and Darren O’Toole will be involved in quarter final this afternoon.
Also this morning in the Men’s 55+ last sixteen Tony Breen from Templeudigan beat Gerry McGrath from Wicklow 21-13, 21-8 to set up a World quarter final with number two seed David Steinberg from the USA.
The action continues throughout the day in Dublin with plenty more Wexford players in action this afternoon and evening.
